Major concerns emerged regarding Auston Matthews' head injury that occured in the playoffs against the Boston Bruins.

The Maple Leafs were eliminated in seven games by the Bruins and it's safe to say that in the series, luck didn't turn their way.

William Nylander was forced to miss a few games because of migraine issues, Joseph Woll had to miss game seven after a back injury, and Auston Matthews was liminted to five games, as he dealt with an illness and suffered a head injury from a weird hit.

What worried most fans was Matthews' head injury. It was the second time that the Leafs' star suffered from a head injury in his career, at only 26 years old.

Sportsnet's Luke Fox shed light on the situation:

"How concerning is it that Auston Matthews has now sustained multiple head injuries in his career one in his sophomore season and another after a 'weird hit' in Game 4 of the Bruins series?

Sidney Crosby is the posterboy for stuffing head injuries in the rearview and going on to thrive for years afterward. We'll take it as a positive that Matthews got cleared to play Game 7 and set up a goal, despite looking something less than 100 per cent."

It's hard to predict the long-term consequences of head injuries, which fueled concerns regarding Matthews' situation. However, the example of Sidney Crosby, who also had many head injuries in his career and continues to perform well is encouraging for Leafs fans.
