After a flurry of moves to start free agency, the Toronto Maple Leafs are set up for success on the blue line, but after losing Tyler Bertuzzi in free agency, they've still got some holes to fill on this roster.
Now, it appears they may be targeting a unique solution to the problem, in the form of disgruntled Jets prospect Rutger McGroarty, who seemingly doesn't want to be a Jet.
A rumour has now emerged that the Jets and Maple Leafs could help each other in a potential deal, with a trade centered around Nick Robertson and McGroarty becoming a genuine possibility.
Unlike McGroarty, Robertson has NHL experience, and while he put up a solid 14 goals and 27 points in 56 games last season with the Leafs, he remains unhappy with his role on the team.
The Jets are looking to fill a role in their top nine currently, and with Robertson gaining experience, he may be the perfect name to facilitate a trade that would help two Canadian teams both chasing a Stanley Cup in 2024/25.
At this point, it's seemingly just a matter of time until McGroarty is moved, so if the Maple Leafs see the University of Michigan prospect as NHL ready, packaging Robertson and another asset could be a major move that gives this offense another much needed boost.
