Toronto's Morgan Rielly will face the NHL's Department of Player Safety today, and now his teammate has come out in support of him, but also making a shock statement about the process.

Auston Matthews calls out the NHL's Department of Player Safety

Auston Matthews is a player that hasn't faced the NHL's DoPS too much over the years, but when he did, he had a poor experienced, reflected in this very unflattering statement.

"It's definitely very eye-opening ... I felt like my bed was already made when I hopped on that phone. Everybody's situation is going to be a bit different. I guess we'll see what happens"

If this is true, it doesn't bode well for Rielly, who has been the centre of both rage and support all throughout the media since the incident involving Ottawa's Ridley Greig.

Auston Matthews supports his veteran teammate

That's not all Matthews had to say on the impending hearing for Rielly, as he came to the defense of his long-time NHL teammate.

Auston Matthews on Ridley Greig shooting the puck into the open net: «It definitely deserved a reaction. But Morgan's not a malicious guy.»

Whether or not Matthews claims have any validity, it's very likely that Rielly is facing a suspension for his act, but players continuing to publicly call out the NHL's DoPS may be the action needed to make change within the system.
