Both players were draft picks of the Maple Leafs in the 2023 NHL draft. Cowan of the London Knights in the OHL was the 28th pick in the first round. Chadwick, who played for the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the WHL, was the 185th overall pick in the sixth round.
Cowan is coming off the best season of his career. In 54 games with the Knights, he scored 96 points. He also won his fair share of hardware; he won the OHL's Red Tilson Trophy (Most Outstanding Player), the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award (OHL Playoff MVP), and the J. Ross Robertson Cup (OHL Championship). He and the Knights also made it to the Memorial Cup final but lost to the Saginaw Spirit.
Chadwick is also coming off of his best season in his career. In 66 games, he had 56 points, which is 36 more than the previous season. He is also the lowest-drafted defenseman that was invited to the showcase.
The showcase will run from July 28 to August 3, where all the players invited will be able to show off their skills in hopes of securing a spot on Team Canada's 2024 world junior team.
Keep in mind that just because you were invited to the showcase doesn't mean that you are guaranteed a spot on the roster. Hockey Canada will narrow down the list
and then observe how other Canadian hockey players do at the start of next year's season before naming their team.
