The Toronto Maple Leafs have had a very busy off-season so far, signing multiple players. It appears that they are not quite done yet, as a trade is closing in.

Over the last few weeks, the Leafs have added NHL defensemen Chris Tanev, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, as well as Jani Hakanpaa, although they are still working that signing out.
Now, it appears that they are closing in on trading defenseman Timothy Liljegren, who has been at the center of trade rumors for a while, as the Leafs look to free up some cap space. TSN's Chris Johnston reported that this trade is likely, despite the two-year extension he just signed.
"We'll see if Timothy Liljegren maybe still gets traded. I know he was signed to a 2-year extension, but I don't think you can entirely rule out a trade in his circumstance yet. They're still going to keep chipping away at the roster."
With roughly three months until the start of the regular season, there is plenty of time for GM Brad Treliving to make a move or two.

There was no mention of who Treliving would trade Liljegren for, just that he seems like the likely trade target. The Leafs really hoped Liljegren would blossom after they selected him in the 1st round back in 2017, but unfortunately, he has left a lot on the table, not living up to his true potential.
