Over the past few months, the Toronto Maple Leafs have made the significant additions of Chris Tanev, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Anthony Stolarz and Jani Hakanpaa, but they're still far away from being a Stanley Cup contender.
According to one analyst, there's still plenty of moves to make if they want to matchup against the Eastern Conference heavyweights, and he has outlined them with these three moves;
First, the Maple Leafs need to re-sign Mitch Marner to avoid a huge distraction heading into the season, and then, they need to move either he or William Nylander to the 2C role, pushing captain John Tavares to the third line for the scoring depth.
Next up is Nick Robertson, who should also have his future resolved, and if he remains a Maple Leaf, will need to be given a significant role and opportunity to replace Tyler Bertuzzi, who departed the team in free agency.
Finally come the real moves, with this analyst predicting that Toronto need to desperately move on from David Kampf, Calle Jarnkrok and Ryan Reaves to give them a defined bottom-six heading into 2024/25.
Ultimately, all of these moves makes sense, and while there will be experimenting with this lineup, it needs to be set in stone before the year begins, and if Treliving can make all of this happen, there's no doubting that this may be the year the Maple Leafs make a significant push to the Stanley Cup.
