NHL DoPS makes official decision on Max Domi suspension
During game one of the playoffs against the Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs center Max Domi made a questionable decision during a scrum in front of the Bruins net. However, the Department of Player Safety has seemingly ignored the incident.
The play was more or less a run-of-the-mill scrum in front of the Bruins net. Goaltender Jeremey Swayman made the initial save before scrambling to cover the rebound, which fell in front of him. As this was happening, Domi was battling with Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy, when he gave him a couple of gloved punches to the back of the head.
The ole punch in the back of the head.
Some fans felt that the play might have warranted supplementary discipline from the Department of Player Safety, whether that be a fine or a suspension. However, if anything were to come from it, it would have been announced by now. As such, we now know that this incident did not cross the line in the league's opinion.
Because 5pm has come and gone, #LeafsForever Max Domi will not face supplementary discipline from the @NHLPlayerSafety for this play!
Domi was not himself throughout the game as he reverted to a less disciplined and consistent version of himself as he let his frustrations control his actions. He would later take a silly penalty late in the game and the Leafs would pay for it as the Bruins scored on the ensuing powerplay.
Jake DeBrusk again. What a game he's having.
Some truly sensational passes by Charlie McAvoy and Brad Marchand here to set up the JDB goal.
Boneheaded penalty by Max Domi to set up this PP.
The #NHLBruins are blowing out TML at home in game one. 4-0. Ultimately, it was not the Leafs' night as they would drop the series opener 5-1. Domi and his teammates will have a chance to tie the series up tomorrow in Boston.
