The insider Pierre LeBrun revealed how the head coach interview went between the Toronto Maple Leafs management and Craig Berube.

Berube has been the top contender to get Sheldon Keefe's old job even before the Leafs decided to make a coaching change.

Earlier in the season, during a podcast, Berube even mentionned the situation, and how he'd love to become the Leafs new coach:

"It'd be an honor to coach for the Toronto Maple Leafs if that ever happened. Like I said, it's the best hockey market in the world and a great organization that does everything they can to try to win."

According to Pierre LeBrun, Berube could be getting that honor soon.

After Elliotte Friedman reported that it's not a question of "if", rather than "when" Berube will sign a contract:

"elliotte friedman on the jeff marek show says berube is the guy for toronto, it's just when are they going to do this"

LeBrun stated that the interviews between Berube and the Leafs went well, and he both camps already met several times:

"«I think there have been more back and forths between Berube and the Leafs. My understanding is they met last weekend, Saturday and Sunday. Brendan Shanahan I think was part of things the second day, and of course Brad Treliving the whole time. And I'm told it went really well.»

If we listen to the experts, the Leafs should make an announcement soon regarding their next head coach, confirming the hiring of former St. Louis Blues coach and Stanley Cup champion Craig Berube.

More to come.
