Nicholas Robertson hasn't played or skated since December 8th.

The Californian was injured during a game between the Los Angeles Kings and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Kings defenseman Matt Roy dealt a crushing blow to the young winger, causing him to crash hard into the end boards and injure his right shoulder.

Initially, the Leafs and Nicholas Robertson opted for extensive rehab, hoping for a return within 6-8 weeks.

Unfortunately, the rehab was unsuccessful, and Robertson underwent season-ending surgery on January 16th. This week, just two months after surgery, Robertson returned to the ice - a sight that pleased Sheldon Keefe.

Sheldon Keefe Reveals Plans For Nicholas Robertson

Sheldon Keefe was obviously happy with how things are going for Nicholas Robertson.

"It's great to see. It seems like he's responded well to the surgery when I've seen him and we've talked. He's got a long road ahead of him. You start feeling good and get back on the ice, but there's still a long way to go before playing. He's committed and has faced similar situations before, recovering from severe injuries. In this case, he'll have an extended period of training and such. He'll undoubtedly be an important player down the line."

Prior to his injury, Nicholas Robertson accumulated 5 points in his 15 games with the Leafs.

He will play a significant role next season, as the Leafs will rely on players with league-minimum or near league-minimum contracts to fill the gaps created by players who may no longer fit within Toronto's budget.
