BREAKING: Capitals Hand Over Massive Extension to Top-Pairing Defenseman
The Washington Capitals have very few players under contract next season, and they have made a move to keep one more. They extended one of their top defensemen today.
The Washington Capitals announced today that Trevor Van Riemsdyk has a greed to a three-year, $9-million deal. This gives him an average annual value of $3-million, which is quite a bit.
In the wild defensive market in free agency, this may be a prudent move, but giving three years to the 31-year-old is a risk.
Van Riemsdyk is coming off of a two-year deal with the Capitals that paid $950,000 annually. It's safe to say this is a very nice raise for him.
