Yesterday, the Columbus Blue Jackets traded forward Oliver Bjorkstrand to the Seattle Kraken for a third and fourth round pick.
Had he not signed defenseman Erik Gudbranson for $4 million a year at a high price, Kekalainen would have been able to keep one of his best forwards.
In 80 games last season, Bjorkstrand scored 57 points, including 28 goals. You're giving away a 25+ goal scorer against peanuts? Especially since he is only 27, this decision is very hard to understand.
Recall that Erik Gudbranson was making $1.95M last season. How did he deserve this drastic salary increase?
Many questions, no answers. Good thing they managed to get Johnny Gaudreau for free. That makes up for these questionable moves.
