According to what The Insider and NYI Hockey Now are reporting, Russian players already under contract with NHL teams, including New York Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin, could find themselves in trouble, much like Philadelphia Flyers prospect Ivan Fedotov, who is in jail for refusing military service.
« The army owns the rights of many young players who are currently playing abroad. If they do not officially settle the issue with the military registration office, players like Egor Afanasyev, Artem Grushnikov, Ilya Sorokin, Denis Guryanov and Dmitry Samorukov could face the same problems as Ivan Fedotov. »
Ilya Sorokin will turn 27 in August.
Kevin Kurz of The Athletic contacted Dan Milstein, Sorokin's agent, to find out where he is. At this time, no information has been provided.
More details to come...
