Another Player Was Ejected Due to the IIHF's Strict Rules
To say that Adam Fantilli's having a tough World Junior Championship is a massive understatement. The dynamic centre, who's poised to go in the top-3 of the 2023 draft had high expectations set for him going into the tournament. Unfortunately, he has disappointed significantly.
While his draft counterpart Connor Bedard left Team Canada's against Germany tied for the all-time single-game point record in Canadian WJC history (7), Fantilli just left with a couple of bruises.
Early on in the game, Fantilli suffered this hit from a German forward. It's safe to say that this one hurt:
The player was assessed a two-minute minor for roughing, as well as a major penalty for checking to the head.
While the IIHF rules are under fire for being too strict, this appears to be the right call.
Hopefully Fantilli can get back on track, or he may end up slipping in the draft.
