In Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes' most recent media availability at noon, several topics were discussed, including Kirby Dach's contract structure, Carey Price's knee, injuries to Sean Monahan, Jonathan Drouin and Paul Byron, as well as Cayden Primeau's future deal.
The CH's GM also talked about an upcoming trade. He would like to get rid of a player in order to have some space under the salary cap.
But Hughes was very clear that he will not trade a contract just to trade a contract.
What he would like is a defenceman, picks or prospects.
Ideally Kent Hughes would make another trade by the start of the season to give himself some flexibility, but he won't do it just to get rid of a salary. He could do it in return for a defenceman, a pick or a prospect.
All indications are that the CH GM is still shopping around.
