What a story Arber Xhekaj is! After being passed over in the NHL draft, he took advantage of an invitation from the Canadiens in 2021 to sign a contract and show up this year with a knife between his teeth. We know what happens next, as he plays his first career Bettman game on Wednesday.
Although he surprised in his first training camp last year, there is one player who convinced Marc Bergevin to sign him. Indeed, Ben Chiarot had a meeting in his office with the former CH general manager and he was good advice.
It's amazing to think that in addition to getting Tyler Smilanic and a first round pick in 2023 in the trade with the Panthers, the Habs will also have gotten (sort of) Arber Xhekaj thanks to Ben Chiarot.
