According to Jimmy Murphy of Boston Hockey Now, the Bruins could be in the running for the veteran.
He believes the Bruins will pursue Kessel if they can move forward Jake DeBrusk. Earlier this season, he asked to be traded from Boston, and if that happens, Kessel might fill the void.
He has 20 goals and 43 points in 56 games in 2020-21 after a dismal rookie season with the Coyotes in 2019-20. He has 5 goals and 17 points in 29 games this season. Of course, that's a far cry from his 30+ goals and 90+ points with the Pittsburgh Penguins, but there's reason to believe Kessel can still score and could provide the Bruins with some middle-six offence.
You have to wonder whether a trade could happen if the Bruins never offered DeBrusk to the Coyotes. It's also unclear if the Bruins are on Kessel's eight-team trade list or if he'd add them.
