BREAKING: Former First Round Top Prospect Requests a Trade
2018 21st overall pick Ryan Merkley has officially been placed on the trade block per Frank Seravalli.
Sources say #sjsharks have made 2018 first-round pick D Ryan Merkley available. Merkley recently requested a trade and Sharks are trying to accommodate.
Merkley, 22, has played 39 NHL games and still has waiver eligibility.
Merkley hasn't quite found his place in San Jose, despite playing 39 games for the Sharks last season. He has spent most of his career with the AHL's San Jose Barracuda.
At only 22 years old, Merkley is a great prospect swing to take. There aren't many young offensively-minded right-handed defensemen out there.
Attitude issues have surfaced over the years, which was the main reason for his slip in the 2018 draft, but if a team is willing to take a bet on Merkley, it could pay off big time.
