Wayne Gretzky has announced he is leaving his position with the Edmonton Oilers. Gretzky, who was named Vice President of the Oilers Entertainment Group back in October of 2016, released the following statement on his Twitter account.
There's no word on whether a specific incident triggered no. 99's departure or whether he just felt it was time to leave. There have been rumours that he would be joining ESPN as a broadcaster, but that has yet to be confirmed. Gretzky, of course, played 10 seasons with the Oilers, winning five Stanley Cups with the team before being traded to the L.A. Kings.
It has been a disappointing post-season for the Edmonton Oilers after the team was swept in four straight games in round one against the Winnipeg Jets.
