The goal was to resume normal games on December 26th-27th, pending test findings. One report says that's improbable and it won't happen.
"Sources indicate growing communication that NHL may postpone games through 1/1," said John Hoven of Mayor's Manor. "Winter Classic will be played, yet games scheduled for 12/27 - 12/31 would move (about another 50 games). We'll see how it all shakes out in the coming days. Nothing confirmed."
Around eighty more players joined the NHL's COVID Protocol before Christmas. The league's biggest challenge appears to be cross-border travel, which most other leagues either avoid or deal with on a far lower scale.
Due to the NHL's withdrawal from the Olympic Games in February, games will be made up during the Olympic break.
