The immediate thought is that Gorton will replace Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin, who is in the final year of his contract, but Friedman says that is not the case. Friedman believes Gorton is being considered for a different post, but he did not elaborate.
Tonight, St. Louis Blues insider Andy Strickland reports on the Canadiens, and I wonder whether these two stories are connected. Scott Mellanby, the Canadiens' assistant general manager, resigned, per Strickland.
