At the moment, the National League seems to be in stand-by mode in terms of trades. The market is at a standstill, with no major transactions having taken place since the start of the season.

However, that may change soon, as quietly the picture of teams seems to be taking shape more and more. Normally, the American Thanksgiving is a pivotal point in the season, to determine a little more about the fate of the various NHL teams, by the end of the season.

In fact, more and more scouts are heading to the various NHL arenas. Usually, this is an excellent indicator of a team's attractiveness for a potential trade.

That being said, there were over 20 NHL scouts in attendance at last night's CH-Buffalo Sabres game. It should be noted that 20 scouts is a lot, especially for teams that send more than one at a time.

Stu Cowan played spy again yesterday, taking pictures of the names of the scouts from the teams that were at the game.

There are a few things to note in this photo. St. Louis, Vegas and Winnipeg sent two representatives and of all the teams in attendance, almost all of them are teams that will be "buyers" by the trade deadline.

The Blues were represented by a very well known man in Montreal, former NHL coach Claude Julien and former NHL GM Peter Chiarelli.

The Habs will be an organization to watch in the coming weeks as they look to liquidate some contracts in the coming months.
