Foligno sustained an injury when he was struck in the knee by Colorado Avalanche defenseman Kurtis MacDermid. It was the type of hit that you simply cannot deliver to an opponent. MacDermid attempted to deliver a body blow and Foligno attempted to avoid contact, but with MacDermid's leg extended so far out, the result was a collision in which both men collided directly knee to knee with almost no other body contact.

Coach Evason had a lot to say about the hit following the game and appeared almost distraught as he attempted to articulate his feelings on the subject.

"What a terrible hit," said the Wild's head coach. "What a terrible, terrible hit. Not a hit. We don't know. Obviously, he's going to get really looked at tomorrow. Obviously doesn't play come back to play so it's serious enough that one of the toughest guys I've ever seen can't come back and play so there's no precaution. It's an awful thing to happen, especially this time [of the year]. Forget about any time. What's the point of it? What's the point?"
