Corey Perry seemed very concerned after accidentally kneeing John Tavares of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the head in the first period of game one. Perry has since confirmed that he and Tavares have exchanged texts.
According to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports, Perry told him he reached out to Tavares and Tavares told him he doesn't hold him responsible for what happened.
Perry confirmed that he and Tavares had remained friends after being teammates for Team Canada in international play. He was clearly shaken up after the incident, although he did agree to fight Nick Foligno of the Maple Leafs on the very next faceoff. Tavares would be transported to hospital and released the next day. He has a concussion and a knee injury. The knee requires two weeks' of recovery time, but there's no telling when he might be able to come back from the concussion.
