The Arizona Coyotes GM Bill Armstrong is one of many general managers in the league, working a complete rebuild. Jakob Chychrun is a massive trade piece in a future blockbuster trade.

However, all the while the Coyotes are trying to set the market for defensemen and doing it embarrassingly.

On another episode of Insider Trading with Darren Dreger, it was revealed why the trade between Los Angeles and Arizona had stalled.

"The fact that, even though it's believed that Bill Armstrong and the Arizona Coyotes want to be creative, they're not willing to take on contracts beyond entry-level contracts."

Talks had sped up and the trade seemed imminent until there was a leak and it had revealed the price Armstrong was asking was too high. Apparently, Armstrong has stopped taking on contracts beyond entry-level, compared to every season previously. Is this trying to cover for taking on Zack Kassian?

It's understandable that Armstrong is trying to limit the liabilities of his own team, but as it stands they have $18 Million in cap space and are not willing to spend money on talent. This is the team that Bettman won't ship to Quebec?!

Chychrun has an affordable cap hit, at $4.6 Million AAV until 2025 and they could afford to retain 50% of that salary cap hit to make a trade, happen but it is apparent that Gary Bettman's favorite team is treating the deadline like a joke.
