Despite recovering from serious injuries, Claude Julien will be behind the bench for Canada tonight
Veteran head coach Claude Julien has officially joined Team Canada in Beijing and is expected to be behind the bench to coach the team against a formidable Team USA on Friday. Julien had been unable to travel to Beijing with the rest of the team earlier this month due to injuries that he sustained that required surgery.
According to reports, the Team Canada bench boss had sustained injuries after falling off of a toboggan in Switzerland during a team building exercise. The accident resulted in Julien needing surgery to treat a broken rib and a punctured lung.
Julien, 61, says that he is feeling much better and is good to go. They say that hockey players are tough customers, but a coach with a broken rib and a punctured lung not bailing on the Olympics is pretty tough as well.
Team Canada will look to build off of a dominant 5-1 victory against Germany, though Team USA presents a lot of challenges that the German squad did not.
