Edmonton Oilers offer for Erik Karlsson has been revealed
The San Jose Sharks have been shopping Erik Karlsson for a while now, while they're in the process of their rebuild. However, not many teams can afford him with such a high cap hit.
One of them is the Edmonton Oilers and while they are pressed against the salary cap, they would have to move players in order to make it work. This is what has been proposed so far.
Bob Stauffer, radio analyst for the Edmonton Oilers has said that the Oilers offer for Erik Karlsson would be their 2023 1st, defensemen Evan Bouchard, prospect Xavier Bourgault (as the 3 1sts) and two contracts, Tyson Barrie to balance out the numbers and another roster player. The Oilers are one of the many teams utilizing LTIR space to make the cap work. With $8,843,761.00 available currently, moving Evan Bouchard and Tyson Barrie, would make the money work. Also acquiring 2023 1st, and Xavier Bourgault would be another piece of the puzzle moved.
If Mike Grier would've pulled the trigger on this trade, it would've been a coup for him. With moving an overpaid Karlsson, he shores up his blueline with Bouchard and Barrie and he adds a quality power-play specialist to the organization all the while.
Attaining Bourgault is the ultimate coup as the Sharks are struggling all around offensively, they get another young piece for the rebuild.
