It was announced today that Vladislav Gavrikov would be scratched for trade-related reasons. Fellow blueliner Jakob Chychrun is scratched for the same reason. It doesn't really make sense on the surface, but what if they were... traded for each other?

This isn't exactly how it would go down, but per the most respected insider in hockey, Elliotte Friedman, there is a path to Jakob Chychrun joining the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Just an idea running through my head: Columbus moves Gavrikov and uses the return assets to try and add Chychrun. They've been interested in the Arizona D-man before and he has term.

So, the Blue Jackets would trade Gavrikov, and then use those assets in a package for Chychrun. One can imagine that one of Columbus' blue-chip blueline prospects would be added into the deal.

Just as a basic proposal, assume that Gavrikov earns a similar package to what sent David Savard to Tampa Bay in 2020.

So with a 1st and a 3rd round pick, the Blue Jackets could add in a guy like Denton Mateychuk or Stanislav Svosil along with another asset to get the deal done. Chychrun could be a big piece in rebooting the floundering Blue Jackets.

It's a crazy idea, but if Friedman is thinking about it, so are NHL GM's.

Unsurprisingly, fans immediately turned to mockery of this crazy idea:

We will see how it all unfolds, but it would be pretty funny to see Chychrun somehow end up on an even worse team!
