Eugenie Bouchard calls on authorities to increase attendance at the Bell Centre
It was certainly a blow to fans of the Montreal Canadiens when it was revealed recently that Quebec authorities had denied a request from the team to increase attendance at the Bell Centre for games three and four of the Stanley Cup final. Now, high-profile tennis player Eugenie Bouchard is calling on the powers that be to reverse that decision and allow more people to attend the games.
Bouchard, who was born in Montreal and is a fan of the Montreal Canadiens, sent out a Tweet from her official account calling on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Quebec Premier Francis Legault to open up the Bell Centre to full capacity immediately, saying it's the Stanley Cup Finals and that should be reason enough the relax the rules.
If social media influence is any factor here, Bouchard has 1.6 million Twitter followers, 100,000 more than the Montreal Canadiens themselves. She is certainly a high-profile ally to have if the Habs have any hope in getting attendance increased.
Right now, 3500 fans are allowed at games three and four, as well as game 6 if necessary. The City of Montreal is planning on holding outdoor viewing parties during the games.
