For former goaltender Scott Darling, who played 126 career games in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks and Carolina Hurricanes, winning a Stanley Cup in the process with Jonathan Toews' crew, retirement has been quite painful.
Indeed, Darling revealed to NHL.com that he suffered from depression for six months after announcing his retirement. What got him through, by his own admission, was humor.
Darling met comedian Ray Wisbrock at a party at the Laugh Factory in Chicago. One thing led to another, and through laughter and socializing, Darling and Wisbrock became friends and the depression was cured.
As of today, Darling is trying his luck as a comedian and he says he feels the same kind of adrenaline before going on stage as he did when he was about to start a game.
