The Chicago Blackhawks have taken the first step by hiring their first native woman. Brigette Lacquette, a hockey player, will become a scout for the Blackhawks.
"I had to go through some things mentally and emotionally over the summer with everything going on in life. This job has kept me busy and I have something to look forward to and something I want to excel at, get better every day and give it my all. It turns out that I really love this job." -Brigette Lacquette
She couldn't believe her eyes when the Hawks contacted her. Hawks assistant GM Ryan Stewart messaged her on Facebook.
"We were looking for more diverse opinions...just more opinions, more different people to bring in here. So in doing a lot of research and doing different things, his name just came up and I kind of dove deeper. From everyone I've talked to, from former college coaches to teammates, they've been raving about her hockey sense and her integrity as a person. To me, if you have hockey sense as a player, that translates very well into recruiting."
-Ryan Stewart, assistant general manager of the Chicago Blackhawks:
Lacquette's job will be to monitor drafted players who play in the WHL. That means from the Prairies to British Columbia.
"October was definitely a busy month. I didn't really know what to expect. I was excited to drive to Lethbridge and watch a hockey game, but then I thought, what am I looking for? I've played hockey my whole life, so I watched the game, broke it down into certain aspects and noted the players' skills. I've written reports on them. The more I watch them, the more I notice they are improving or not improving." -Brigette Lacquette
Wow she will have a great career.
