Gary Bettman Finally Listens And Gives The Fans What They Want
In recent reports, the NHL is planning on adopting a new style of broadcast that fans are actually excited about.
NHL Reportedly Testing 'Red Zone' Style Broadcast This Season
It's been a long challenge for NHL executives to find ways to attract new viewers while maintaining existing fans, and NHL viewership has shown that. In the past few years, viewership of the NHL has declined as other major sports continue to vie for the attention of viewers.
Now, the NHL is hopeful that a new broadcast style will attract new viewers while simultaneously providing a better product for hockey fans. They are reportedly testing a 'Frozen Frenzy' broadcast, one similar to Red Zone that would feature John Buccigross showing highlights from multiple NHL games occurring at the same time.
The NHL will test-run their own version of NFL Redzone called Frozen Frenzy' on ESPN this season.
It will be on October 24th when all 32 teams play, and they will use it more often in the future if it goes well.
Hosted by John Buccigross, the studio will be bouncing around different games. Fans will see «every power play, every hit, every goal, every highlight.»
There will be as many as 11 games on at once that day, and Frozen Frenzy will aim to show every important moment.
Latest in NHL's Efforts to Innovate the Broadcast to Attract Fans
The NHL is no stranger to innovating their broadcasts in order to try and attract new fans. They had huge successes with the Winter Classic, which has turned into the Stadium Series.
NHL RedZone sounds like something Jigsaw would cook up for me
More recently they have been changing broadcasts to feature animated games (they were the test subject for what you may have seen recently in the NFL). They've also tried to do a better job using motion graphics to make the game more watchable.
