The New York Rangers recently recalled goaltender Dylan Garand from the minors. The surprising move raises questions as to whether or not they will send their veteran backup goalie down to the minors.

Johnathan Quick At Risk of Placed On Waivers After Recent Move

With training camps coming into their last week, things are starting to really heat up with regard to roster spots. Now, an unexpected battle for backup goaltender has emerged in New York.

The New York Rangers recently recalled goaltender Dylan Garand from the minors, a move that has sent some shock through the NHL. It was expected that New York would be content with starter Igor Shesterkin, and Jonathan Quick would be a veteran backup. Now, things don't look so certain.

TRANSACTION: The Rangers have recalled goaltender Dylan Garand from the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Are they sending Quick down ??

Former Stanley Cup Champion Likely to Be Claimed

Quick has a significant resume, recently adding a third Stanley Cup championship with the Knights last season. With the goaltender shortage in the league right now, it is more than likely he would be picked up by someone (ahem, Tampa Bay).

I see Cuylle and Othmann plans to be extras in New York. Rempe a surprise but doing well. Thought Brodzinski did well as a possible call up fill in. Garand won't stay but made the case he gets primary net time in Hartford. Put Quick on waivers. Let him get claimed by Tampa.
