According to reports from Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman yesterday, the Calgary Flames and Oilers will be playing in the Heritage Classic next season in Edmonton.
No date has been confirmed yet, but all indications are that it will take place in October 2023.
Many Canadiens fans will be disappointed with this decision, considering that the first Heritage Classic took place in 2003 between the CH and the Oilers. A replay 20 years later would have been a major nod from the league to a mythical event that started the trend of outdoor games making millions for the NHL.
Journalist Chris Johnston had even revealed, a few days ago, that the Tricolore was a more than likely opponent for the Oilers in this edition.
