The Habs cannot lose Suzuki the same way they lost Kotkaniemi. He is protected from a hostile bid until July 1, 2022, Bergevin has to sign him as soon as possible. Before he breaks out and scores 30 goals and wants 9M$ a year.
Suzuki is the 1st line center and will be the Habs best player for the next 5-10 years. Last year, he scored 41 points in 56 games, or 60 points per season. He has 16 points in 22 games in the playoffs.
Bergevin should definitely offer him a contract extension for at least 7 years. Nick Suzuki's contract with the New Jersey Devils is comparable to Hischier's 7-year, $7.15M a year. Two solid guys who can easily score 50 points per year. In the long run, it's definitely what the Habs forward wants, especially if he explodes this year. Suzuki is the future of the franchise, and we should prioritise him before we favour another Habs player.
