Team GM Pierre Dorion is continually part of the trade rumours that involve a talented defenceman. It may only be a matter of time before he gets what he wants.
Erik Karlsson's outstanding start to the season and the fact that his team is rebuilding has put his name on the trading block in San Jose.
Check out what Sportsnet's Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman had to say on the subject:
Wow!
So there have reportedly been serious discussions between Ottawa and San Jose about a deal involving Karlsson. You have to admit, the scenario would be simply unbelievable.
However, the two general managers will have to be particularly creative because the Swede's hefty contract of $11.5M for another five years could greatly complicate the task.
Right now, even if San Jose were to retain 50% of Karlsson's salary, it would take a little more to make it work.
If a return to Ottawa does materialize, it would be a huge blow to a team that has been hoping to become competitive this season, but has been slow to get results.
The 32 year old seems to have tasted the fountain of youth, he is back to being the Karlsson of the good old days. He is literally phenomenal this season, with 24 points, including 10 goals, in just 18 games this season.
Let's remember that the Senators had obtained at the time:
- Josh Norris
- Rudolfs Balcers
- Chris Tierney
- Dylan DeMelo
- Tim Stutzle
- Second round pick
- A conditional second round pick
- A conditional first round pick.
