While we have a nice new arena ready and willing to take on either a new franchise via expansion or relocation of the Arizona Coyotes. Because let's face it, the people of Arizona and the Coyotes isn't working any more.
On friday ahead of the All-Star skills competition, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman spoke about the situation with the Arizona Coyotes and the lack of an arena. In case you missed last week's news, the Arizona Coyotes could be going to play in Arizona State University 5,000-seat arena next season.
To which was roasted by media, hockey fans and even Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand couldn't help but to take a shot at the poor attendance crowds for the Arizona Coyotes. There's CHL teams that draw more than 5,000 fans agame in junior hockey.
The Arizona Coyotes say they are averaging 11,703 seats a game which is doubtful if you've seen Coyotes games on TV even before the pandemic.
When Gary Bettman spoke about what the future holds for the Arizona Coyotes, he believes Arizona remains a good market and as long as there is commitment for a new building on the way, it will be worth sticking with the market. There's some that believe there's alternative motivations why commissioner Bettman won't give up on keeping the Coyotes in the desert.
Hockey insiders and fans alike have been saying the Coyotes need to relocate, Quebec has been trying for over 10 years to bring the NHL back to Quebec, but it doesn't look like any Canadian city will get an NHL team under Gary Bettman's watch.
