The Carolina Hurricanes have announced that forward Ondrej Kase has been placed on the long-term injury list.
This personnel move allows Don Waddell to activate Max Pacioretty who will make a return to action.
Pacioretty, 34, underwent surgery to repair a torn Achilles heel on Aug. 10 and has not played in any of Carolina's 38 games this season.
The former Canadiens captain was acquired by the Hurricanes along with defenceman Dylan Coghlan from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for future considerations on July 13.
Pacioretty scored 37 points in 39 games with Vegas last season.
