Insider sheds light on the truth behind Ryan O'Reilly's trade to the Maple Leafs
The St. Louis Blues and Toronto Maple Leaf's trade broke last night and has reverberated through the league, as Maple Leaf's fans are hyped with the new acquisitions.
But there's more to the story than just Kyle Dubas working his usual magic to make deals at the deadline.
When it came to moving Ryan O'Reilly, the St. Louis Blues GM Doug Armstrong allowed O'Reilly to choose his destination. Of all interested parties, after O'Reilly chose his hometown Ontario, Armstrong did his best to make the trade happen, according to TSN's Carlo Colaiacovo.
The move allowed O'Reilly to move back home for family reasons and the fact that Doug Armstrong and Kyle Dubas made it happen, is commendable. O'Reilly will have the benefit of getting a shot at the playoffs after it wasn't certain in St. Louis as well.
O'Reilly moving into the Maple Leaf's line up will be coming in with 40 games played, with 12 goals and 7 assists for 19 points overall.
With hope, Sheldon Keefe can help O'Reilly get his A-game back and push the Maple Leafs past the 1st round this season.
