On Christmas Day, Jagr resorted to social media to wish all of his followers a Merry Christmas. To make the celebration even more special, the living legend included a picture of himself as Santa Claus, who was clearly fatigued.
Interestingly, Jagr seized the chance to mention another iconic NHL player, an active player. In his Christmas message, Jagr stated that he was done being Santa and would return to hockey full-time. For whatever reason, he also called out Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin, a player he is unlikely to meet anytime soon.
The possibility of seeing Ovechkin at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, looks remote given this week's decision that NHL players will not be there.
Alternatively, and more probable, this may be a reference to Ovechkin eventually surpassing Jagr in NHL scoring. With 752 career goals, Ovechkin is only 14 goals away from tying Jagr's 766 career goals. The only way Jagr could ever beat Ovechkin in this regard is if he returned to the NHL, which seems unlikely.
