Faced with the problematic situation, commissioner Gary Bettman came out publicly, stating that Miller was not allowed to play in the National Hockey League.
If Miller's story is anything like the controversy surrounding Logan Mailloux's selection in 2021, some fans and journalists have drawn parallels between this case and Mailloux's with the Montreal Canadiens.
In discussing the subject, the Canadiens vice-president of hockey operations, Jeff Gorton, revealed a major piece of information to Montreal fans when he stated that Mailloux was not allowed to play in the NHL either.
Gorton adds that Gary Bettman is involved in the 19-year-old defenseman's case and that when he makes the jump to the pros, most likely next year, he will have to have a good discussion with the NHL commissioner.
According to the former Rangers GM, the signing of his entry-level contract was just the beginning for the Canadiens' first-round pick.
However, in Mailloux's case, at this stage, it would be very surprising if he never got his clearance to play in the National Hockey League, especially since he "has made efforts to improve individually and be more aware", as CH GM Kent Hughes pointed out at the time of the announcement of the defenseman's signing.
