According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Winnipeg Jets and restricted free agent defenseman Neal Pionk have agreed to a 4-year deal with a cap hit of just under $6M.
Pionk was acquired from the New York Rangers on June 17th, 2019 for defenseman Jacob Trouba. The Jets also got the Rangers' 2019 first-round pick.
Pionk, a promising young prospect with the Rangers, has developed into a solid offensive defenseman with the Jets, scoring 77 points in 125 games, nearly half of them on the power play (35).
The Jets also addressed their obvious defensive depth need this offseason by signing Nate Schmidt and Brenden Dillon.
With Pionk's new 4-year, $5.875M AAV deal, the Jets' only offseason concerns are depth defenseman Nathan Beaulieu (UFA) and prospect Sami Niku (RFA).
