As we reported on Saturday, the Carolina Hurricanes have made a hostile offer to the Habs Finnish forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi. A one season contract worth 6.1 million dollars.
The compensation that will go to the Habs if they decide not to match Carolina's hostile offer to KK is a first round pick and a third round pick.
But beyond the compensation, Marc Bergevin will have to think about finding a player to replace Kotkaniemi if he leaves to join the Hurricanes.
We've been talking about several options since the beginning of the week.
Now, a new one has been added today.
Jonathan Drouin told journalist Pierre Houde this morning that he was ready to play center this season. He could potentially take the 2nd center position behind Nick Suzuki if Jesperi Kotkaniemi leaves for Carolina:
"I asked him and he said definitely (he could take KK's spot at center if needed). And he was very serious."
Pierre Houde
It's hard to say if this is a feasible avenue for Habs officials, but if he is ever called upon as a center, Drouin will respond.
