As we know, the Canadiens' current general manager, Kent Hughes, was once the agent for Patrice Bergeron and many other players. Now that he has taken on other duties, Hughes agreed to talk about an anecdote that speaks volumes about the Boston Bruins' captain.

A guest on the Raw Knuckles Podcast, hosted by Chris Nilan, Hughes admitted that Bergeron could have signed a big contract with the Habs in 2013, but they refused to take that much money.

"The highest paid players were $8.5 million a year, and I think that was Perry and Getzlaf.

Kent Hughes to Patrice Bergeron:

You're worth $9.5 million! You're better than them, in my opinion. And also, there's a team four and a half hours away (Montreal), northeast of here, your team's biggest rivals, that's desperate to get a first centre and a captain."

Bergeron retorted to Hughes that if he accepted that amount of money, it was impossible to win. So he asked for 6.5 million, much to the former agent's surprise.

This shows Bergeron's loyalty and dedication to the sport. A true winner who will not accept to lose with full pockets. However, imagine the last years of the Habs if Bergeron had accepted such a contract to play in Montreal!
