Canadiens GM Kent Hughes made a great trade yesterday by acquiring defenseman Nicolas Beaudin from the Chicago Blackhawks.

Apart from the fact that this trade is really good for the CH, considering that the Quebec defenseman is left-handed, the organization has added another defenseman to the already strong defensive side of the team. At first glance, the famous "right-handed" defenseman sought by Hughes is still not acquired.

However, comments from Beaudin in an interview suggest that Kent Hughes may have gotten what he was looking for. The former first-round pick in 2018 revealed that he has played mostly right-handed since the beginning of his professional career.

« In the 25 games I played in the National League, I played 20 in right. Last year in Rockford, I played 75% of the games in right." - Nicolas Beaudin

The Canadiens would have potentially found a defenseman who could play on the right side of the defensive line in Montreal.

Furthermore, the former Drummondville Voltigeurs player admitted that he had asked the Hawks for a trade, even though his agents had been working on the deal since last year. Basically, he knew that he was no longer in the plans of his former team when Stan Bowman was fired.

He is therefore doubly happy to finally be traded and moreover for the organization of his childhood.
