Wild finally split the difference with Kevin Fiala agreeing to a one year contract for $5.1M in total. There was a $2.25 million difference between the two sides to go to arbitration, with the Wild offering $4 million to Fiala's $6.25 million.
He has become a dominant player over the past few years, collecting 20 goals and 40 points in 50 games this past season. We're talking about a rapid development of 94 points in 114 games since his arrival in Minnesota two seasons ago. The 25 year old has obviously taken advantage of the arrival of Kirill Kaprizov to increase his production.
In 2019, Fiala was acquired from the Nashville Predators in return for Mikael Granlund. The 11th overall pick in 2014, he is quietly becoming the player we thought he would be with this advanced pick. This short contract will give him a chance to increase his value this season and sign a longer deal.
