David Pagnotta broke the news that John Klingberg asked for a trade.
"They had contract negotiations between the two sides and tried to get towards an 8 year contract extension," said Pagnotta during his appearance on the NHL Network. "They hit a wall and haven't made progress and word started to get out about that, leading teams to inquire about his availability. They were told that nothing was gonna happen at that point and they tried to reconvene negotiations and it just hasn't gotten there. It has been silent to this point with respect to a new extension, but there has been a new development with respect to Klingberg from what I'm being told, according to my sources, he has asked for a trade out of Dallas."
If there was any doubt that Klingberg had sought the trade, it was revealed on Saturday when the defenseman chose to speak up.
Klingberg did not explicitly address the trade demand, but he made it clear that he is unhappy with his team's treatment of him.
"For me as a player, I don't feel like I've been appreciated," said Klingberg on Saturday.
