The NHL free agency period is coming to an end. Zdeno Chara, 44, is likely to return to the NHL next season. The Florida Panthers are reportedly interested in Chara, and a transaction could be completed in two weeks.
The Panthers haven't made many moves this summer, with their most recent signing being veteran Joe Thornton. Chara would offer the team two more kid-friendly chaperons.
Chara spent last season with the Washington Capitals, scoring 10 points in all but one game. Their cap space is presently slightly over $1 million. If Chara joins with the Panthers or another team, it will be the league minimum.
'Big Z' should be signed by mid-September, and he's reportedly headed to Florida.
