The Chicago Blackhawks currently sit 7th in the Central division and are 11 points out of a playoff spot. Pending UFA Marc-Andre Fleury would love to go to a contender for a shot to add a fourth Stanley Cup to his trophy case.
There's been plenty of rumors that Marc-Andre Fleury would go to the Edmonton Oilers. Hockey insider Darren Dreger had this to say on his segment Trading Thursday:
"He won't be a fit in Edmonton, primarily for financial reasons but Fleury was asked about trade possibilities, and he said, 'I'm not thinking about that right now, I'm just trying to inch the Chicago Blackhawks closer to a playoff spot'.
There will be a conversation between the veteran goaltender and his agent, Allan Walsh, and that will extend to the Blackhawks management. There's also an agreement with the Blackhawks that Fleury isn't going anywhere unless he wants to.
Again, pump the brakeshere. We're in the better part of two months away from the March 21 trade deadline. If in six weeks from now Fleury says that he wants to chase the Stanley Cup? Well, that's a different story and there will be interest."
Fleury is 37 years old and has a 13-11-3 record with a 2.69 GAA and .916 this season with the Blackhawks. The Quebecer has played 910 games in his NHL career between the Pittsburgh Penguins, Las Vegas Golden Knights, and his current team the Chicago Blackhawks.
Fleury was drafted first overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2003 and has won a total of 505 games in his Hall of fame worthy NHL career.
