Marie-Philip Poulin reveals the Canadiens' most impressive prospect
The Montreal Canadiens' player development consultant, Marie-Philip Poulin, revealed the player who impressed her the most during the Canadiens most recent development camp.
The answer: Lane Hutson.
« I was very impressed with the way he moved the puck and the way he saw the game," said Poulin, a player development consultant, after watching Hutson display his strengths for three days. "We all know he's talented and very fast, but he competes all the time, too. You see it in his defensive breakdowns, when he comes back, he's always first on the puck, he wants to be there and he wants to make a difference. It was very impressive.»
In his first year with Boston University, it will be interesting to see the progress of the young CH defenseman, drafted in the second round, 62nd overall, in the last draft.
« I love passing the puck and that's something I take pride in, but I think if I can develop a shooter's mentality, it will push teams on their heels, which will make me a much bigger offensive threat," said Hutson. Then defensively, I want to know better when to close out the game. Sometimes I get excited and want to close the game out right away, but you have to be calm and close when you can and when it's smart to do so. »
