McDavid was questioned about Tanev's dangerous play last night. It was remarkably similar to an April 2019 incident when McDavid was tripped into the Flames net, damaging his PCL and needing months of rehab to return to the ice. Even though he was cool and dispassionate when discussing the play, it was evident he disliked it.
"Obviously they have a right to defend their net and defend me trying to get in there, but when the stick kind of comes into the feet there like Tanev's did, it's a dangerous play for me and for the goalie," said McDavid. "I don't want to go flying in there, the goalie doesn't want me to go flying in there."
"You think you'd like to see that called a little bit more. It protects the guy driving the net."
"It's a play that's dangerous. I obviously don't want to go flying into the net. I want to protect the goalie just as much as the defenceman."
